As a Church of England Academy, St George's believes that spiritual development is central to our life together as a school. We embrace an educational vision where the mind, body, and soul are nurtured equally, ensuring all children experience ‘life in all its fullness’.
Faith and Pastoral Care
Our spiritual life is deeply rooted in our daily rhythms. Our School Chapel sits at the very heart of the academy and serves as a constant space for prayer, stillness, and reflection. Pupils participate in weekly collective worship in the Chapel, as well as daily worship during morning meetings, providing a valuable space to step away from the target-driven culture of modern education and reflect on larger questions of meaning. Additionally, each year group partakes in dedicated Year-Communions, marking both key transitions in their academic journey and the wider Church calendar.
All pupils have access to our full-time Chaplain, Reverend Robert, alongside a dedicated pastoral team who staff the Chapel every lunchtime. Whether pupils wish to use our Prayer Wall, submit a request to the prayer box, or simply find a quiet space for conversation, the Chaplaincy team is always available.
An Inclusive and Invitational Ethos
Alongside our established Anglican foundation, St George's embraces a rich tapestry of diversity. We recognise that our pupils and staff come from a variety of faith backgrounds, or no faith background at all.
Our approach to worship is proudly inclusive and invitational. We use the metaphor of "warm fires and open doors". The warmth derives from the authenticity of our Christian message, but the door is always open - meaning all are welcome to come in and sit as near or as far away from the fire as they feel comfortable. We do not impose beliefs; rather, pupils are invited to engage, ask big questions, and pray or reflect in their own way with absolute integrity.
